While Thor is the strongest of the Gods, he is not the smartest or the wisest of the Gods, and many giants tease or fool him as much as they can. It's a tall order to follow on from Thor: Ragnarok, but Taika Waititi is well equipped to do. He's bringing some friends too: Christian Bale is making the leap from DC hero to Marvel villain, while there's at least one MCU crossover in the works.
Then there's the small matter of there being a new Thor on Midgard. Natalie Portman's Jane Foster is back, this time wielding Mjolnir as the Mighty Thor. Throw in some more Thor returnees (which you can find out about down below), and space sharks and you've got yourselves a party. Thor: Love and Thunder release date
The Thor: Love and Thunder release date is now March 25, 2022. Filming starts in January too, according to Marvel.
The road to reach that point was a long and winding one, perhaps best suited to being told as a tale over a few mugs of mead in one of Midgard's many inns. But with no tankards in sight, you'll have to make do with this recap – and hope Ragnarok doesn't reach us by its end. Ready? Deep breath.
Thor 4 was originally set to land at the very end of Marvel Phase 4 on November 5, 2021. That was announced during Kevin Feige's avalanche of MCU news at SDCC 2019.
Then, things started getting shifted. With Black Widow being pushed back as part of Marvel's wave of coronavirus delays, that meant Thor: Love and Thunder retreated to February 18. That is, until recently, where it moved again – due partly to Spider-Man 3's release date changing – and was pushed forward to what hopefully is its final resting place: March 25, 2022.
Thor: Love and Thunder cast
First, the confirmed Thor: Love and Thunder cast. No surprise on who is front and centre. Yep. Chris Hemsworth is back as the God of Thunder, Thor. Joining him is the newly-installed ruler of New Asgard, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson).
In a surprise reveal at SDCC 2019, Natalie Portman was brought on stage. It was announced that she would be returning to the MCU as Jane Foster, but not any old Jane Foster. This Jane Foster – whether she's from a multiverse or not is unclear – will be The Mighty Thor, a plot point drawn straight from comic writer Jason Aaron's legendary mid-2010s Thor run. Portman has also recently revealed that her character will be undergoing cancer treatment.

Jaimie Alexander Chinese roulette game. Big casinos in louisiana. is back as Sif, while more MCU characters could be on the horizon. Director Taika Waititi will also once again be appearing in front of the camera as Korg. The rock star will be making his third appearance after his debut in Thor: Ragnarok and Fortnite-shaped cameo playing against noobmaster69 in Avengers: Endgame.
Star-Lord himself, Chris Pratt, is also showing up in the new Thor movie. Its unknown just how much of a role he'll have but at least we essentially have confirmation that the Asgardians of the Galaxy ride again.
Vin Diesel may have also confirmed that Groot will be branching out and turning up in Thor: Love and Thunder. '[Taika Waititi] talked to me about how Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be very interesting. Uptown aces review. Nobody knows, but maybe I shouldn't have said anything,' Vin Diesel told Comic Book. Of course, now that Pratt is on-board, it appears Vin Diesel may have said too much, too soon.
Opposing the Thors will reportedly be Christian Bale, who has signed on to play Gorr the God Butcher, who played an integral role in Jason Aaron's run as the man who killed off deities across time and space. I mean, he essentially became Marvel's version of Kratos, for Odin's sake. What's not to like?
Not only is it a worthy escalation for Thor – god-killers can certainly stand toe-to-toe with Thanos in terms of power levels – but it's also a tantalising proposition with just how much inspiration it seems the film is taking from the pages of the comics. Thor: Love and Thunder is already swiping space sharks (more on that below) and Jane Foster's Thor from Aaron's pages. What's one more?

Best numbers to pick on roulette. What to expect from Thor: Love and Thunder? According to The Hollywood Reporter, it's likely to have an 'Avengers 5 feel.'

He told Entertainment Tonight, 'If you take Ragnarok – which I feel was a very big, outlandish, bombastic film – we're trying to double down on everything we did with that and create something that's more crazy, more fun, and even more of a big, big adventure.'
Waititi also confirmed on an Instagram Live video that Korg will be looking for love in Thor 4, while Space Sharks will also feature. No, that's not a typo. The creatures have appeared in the comics and serve as a razor-sharp roadblock for those looking to get close to the villainous Gorr's planet during the Thor comic series in 2013.

Another plot point will revolve around Valkyrie finding someone to rule New Asgard with. 'She's king,' she affirmed. 'If she can't find her queen, she'll just be king and queen at the same time,' Thompson said during an interview with ET.
Anything else, for now, is just speculation. But you've got to speculate to accumulate, as they say, and with how close Love and Thunder appears to be following certain plot points from Jason Aaron's run on Mighty Thor, it's worth taking a look at what could still come.
File these under hopes rather than anything concrete but Jane Foster's return probably means a few things. One, Thor is no longer worthy of wielding the hammer. How that happens is anyone's guess, though Jane picked up Mjolnir on the moon in the comics and may do the same again here.
Another possibility is that she hails from a multiverse, a concept that is outright namechecked in Doctor Strange sequel Multiverse of Madness.

Thor, Asgard's god of thunder, has consistently been one of Marvel Cinematic Universe's most powerful heroes since his debut in 2011's Thor, going toe-to-toe with even the Incredible Hulk in terms of brute strength.

But when Thor embarks on his next solo adventure in Thor: Ragnarok, he's going to lose his hair and his mighty hammer, Mjolnir. So what does that mean for the hero's powers?
In the first Thor movie, after Thor disobeys orders from Odin and attacks the Frost Giants, Odin banishes him to Earth. Odin also casts a powerful enchantment on Mjolnir: 'Whosoever holds this hammer, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.' The lightning-based become attached to the hammer itself, and Thor has to spend most of the movie as a mortal. As long as he's deemed 'unworthy,' he's rendered comparable to a human and is much more vulnerable to injury.
Of course, that all changes when he becomes worthy once again and regains his full power.
Mjolnir powers
Every time Thor fights in later MCU films, notably The Avengers, Thor: The Dark World, and Avengers: Age of Ultron, he does so almost exclusively while wielding Mjolnir.
Thor Guard Lightning System
Thor's physiology is naturally superhuman (more on that later), but he also has thousands of years of combat experience, flinging Mjolnir around as a projectile weapon and smashing all manner of enemies with it directly. With Mjolnir, his natural strength and agility are enhanced to the extent that he's basically invulnerable. It also allows him to control the weather and channel electric energy, which is what he did that one time to create Vision during Age of Ultron.
Pretty much every single one of Thor's coolest moves involves using the hammer, including flying at extreme speeds and whipping it in tight circles to slow down.
Mjolnir basically makes Thor overpowered in the Marvel movies, but that's all about to change.
Mjolnir gets destroyed
But trailers for Thor: Ragnarok have shown that Cate Blanchett's Hela destroys Mjolnir early on in the movie, which is bad news for Thor.
What exactly does that mean for Thor and his powers? Technically, he's still 'worthy' of the powers. But if the hammer itself is destroyed, do the god of thunder powers disappear along with it?
One way or another, Thor's effectively depowered as a result, because he's going to wind up in chains and banished to a planet full of trash, where he'll get enslaved as a gladiator and be forced to fight his 'friend from work,' the Hulk. He's still strong, but just how strong is that?
Asgardian biology
Sif and the Warriors Three, along with other Asgardians like Heimdall and even Odin, have consistently shown that the even lesser Asgardians have superhuman physiology. Without Mjolnir, Thor should, in theory, be extremely durable, strong, and fast. Not all of this strength is linked exclusively to Mjolnir. Thor is commonly regarded as one of the strongest Asgardians in terms of raw power.
Thor trades blows with Hulk in Ragnarok, and lives to tell the tale, so he's clearly not as weak as he was in the first Thor movie without his hammer.
Still, with Hela having destroyed Mjolnir, Thor is rendered weak enough to be banished from Asgard and enslaved by Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster to fight as a gladiator on the planet Sakaar.
Thor is still the god of thunder
Thor's journey in Ragnarok will see him team up with Hulk, Doctor Strange, Loki, and several other new companions. Eventually, he'll have to make his way back to Asgard with a seemingly new powerset. When Hela proclaims herself the goddess of death, she asks Thor, 'What were you the god of again?' The only response we get is a badass shot of Thor slamming down on the Bifrost Bridge while crackling with electricity.
So who is Thor without Mjolnir? Still the god of thunder, apparently. These are probably powers that Thor has to re-discover throughout the course of Thor: Ragnarok, or perhaps they're granted to him by some Asgardian artifact or another magic-based plot device.
We'll have to wait until the movie comes out to further understand exactly what Thor's powers will entail, but it's bound to be a wild ride.
Thor: Ragnarok will be released on November 3.
